Part 10: Estate & Care Plan

Original Ars Moriendi Panel

The tenth ars moriendi panel revolves around last rites and rituals at the time of passing, often inluding prayer and sacraments.

Modern Context

Adapting this to a modern view, what essential “last rights” should be in place? This could be a number of things, but an obvious and essential one is ensuring essential modern elements like an estate plan, will, and end-of-life care plan are in place. All to often these are not in place or are not up to date, causing signficant stress and potentially costs for surviving family. With a reliable estate and care plan in place one is more free to live well and worry less about their end, knowing critical preparations are made.

Questions for Estate and Care Plan:

Do you have an estate plan, will, medical and other powers of attorney, and an end-of-life care plan document, signed and validly in force?
If yes to the above, when was it last reviewed? Laws can change surprisingly often and documents even a few years old may need updating.
Who might you need to talk with about what should be in these documents?
Do you have an estate attorney or other advisor to talk with about these matters?
Are there any “last things” you will want to do/be done for you?
Who might you want around you when the end approaches? Do they know this?
